Jamalpur: A Jamalpur court on Wednesday sentenced three people to death in a case filed over the gang rape of a woman after tying her husband to a tree in 2023. Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Tribunal-1 Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim handed down the punishment.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the condemned convicts are Faruk Hossain, son of Azizul Haque; Mansur Ali, son of Ali Akbar; and Ferdous Hossain, son of Shafiqul Islam of Pakulla Madhyapara in Sadar upazila of the district. The tribunal also fined the convicts Tk 1 lakh each. The court acquitted one accused, Zahidul Islam, son of Jamal Uddin, as the allegations against him could not be proved.
The prosecution detailed that the convicts assaulted a woman from the Pakulla area after restraining her husband by tying him to a tree on the night of July 19, 2023. The woman filed a case with Sadar Police Station the following day against four individuals.
