Dhaka: The High Court has granted bail to former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in four cases involving various charges, including murder. The decision was made by the bench of Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Md Sagir Hossain, who considered separate bail petitions filed by Haque.

According to United News of Bangladesh, despite the bail grant, Khairul Haque will remain in jail due to his arrest in another pending case. His legal team, comprising Senior lawyer Munsurul Haque Chowdhury, Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju, Barrister Sara Hossain, Sayeed Ahmed Raja, and lawyer Monayem Nabi Shaheen, represented him in court, while Deputy Attorney General Zahirul Islam Sumon appeared for the state.

Khairul Haque was initially arrested by police from his Dhanmondi residence on July 24 of the previous year. He was later implicated in a case concerning the murder of Jubo Dal activist Abdul Qayyum Ahad during the July movement in Jatrabari. Besides this, he faced four additional cases.

One significant case was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Mujahidul Islam Shaheen at Shahbagh Police Station on August 27, accusing Haque of forging a judgment related to the caretaker government system. On August 25, Abdul Bari Bhuiyan, a former president of the District Bar Association, filed another case at Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj. Another similar charge was brought against him on the same day by Nurul Islam Molla at Bandar Police Station in Narayanganj.

Earlier, on August 4 of the previous year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Haque over alleged corruption in plot allocation. After facing bail rejections in lower courts, Khairul Haque approached the High Court for relief, which led to the recent ruling in his favor.
