Dhaka: Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO to improve the overall quality of education in Bangladesh. He made the remark during a meeting with UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh Dr. Susan Vize at the Bangladesh Secretariat here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, both sides emphasized enhancing mutual cooperation to improve the overall standard of education, prevent student dropout, and ensure quality education in the country. They also discussed issues related to implementing a compulsory unified education system and improving the quality of education.
The discussion highlighted the importance of protecting students' mental health, improving teachers' skills and standards to ensure quality education, and increasing the effectiveness of the education system. The education minister expressed hope for closer collaboration with development partners, noting the need to review ongoing projects aimed at improving education quality. He emphasized that the goal is not only to spend funds but to ensure their effectiveness and usefulness.
Initiatives will be taken to review the existing curriculum to make the country's education system more time-befitting. The meeting also addressed ways to remove administrative complexities and bureaucratic delays. When UNESCO representatives sought cooperation in this regard, the minister invited them to contact him directly and assured them of taking prompt and effective measures.
Education Secretary Abdul Khaleque and senior officials of the Secondary and Higher Education Division were present at the meeting.
