Khulna: Police, in an anti-crime drive, arrested a woman along with five firearms and 96 rounds of bullet from NijKhamar area under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna City this morning. The arrested woman was identified as Suraiya Parveen Sumi, 37, a resident of Satkhira Sadar area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station, Md. Tuhinuzzaman, confirmed the matter, stating that, acting on a tip-off, police conducted a joint drive along with officials of the Department of Narcotics Control in the NijKhamar area around 9:30 am. The operation was initiated as they received information that a consignment of narcotics would be transported from Satkhira to Dhaka via Khulna.
During the drive, law enforcers stopped a Dhaka-bound Imad Paribahan bus that had arrived in the area from Satkhira and carried out a search. As the movement of Suraiya Parveen Sumi appeared suspicious, police searched her body and bag and recovered five pistols, two magazines, and 96 rounds of bullet, the OC added. Subsequently, she was taken to Labanchara Police Station for further legal action, and a case was filed against her under the Arms Act.
Talking to BSS, Mohammad Tazul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), said that during the joint drive, the law enforcers initially seized 80 bottles of phensedyl from the area. Later, based on further information, they seized the arms and ammunition from the woman who was a passenger on a Khulna-bound bus that was coming from Satkhira.
