Two Arrested with Firearm and Ammunition in Noakhali

Noakhali: Police in a drive arrested two people with a foreign-made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition from Kanchihata area under Begumganj upazila of the district. The arrested individuals are Md. Farhad Islam Fahim, 20, and Tajul Islam Sumon, 34, both residents of Amanuullapur in Begumganj upazila.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was confirmed by Noakhali District Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), Abu Tayyab Md. Arif Hossain, through a press release. The operation was conducted by a police team based on confidential information pertaining to warrants, drugs, and illegal weapons.



During the operation, police intercepted three suspected individuals near Selim’s Tea Shop at the Sardar Dighi Par intersection in Kanchihata, Amanuullapur union No. 1. While two suspects were captured, one managed to flee the scene. Upon searching the arrested men, police recovered one foreign-made pistol, two rounds of fresh ammunition, a tin, and a magazine from Md. Farhad Islam Fahim.



Police reports suggest that the men were in the area to establish their dominance and engage in the illegal trade of firearms. Consequently, a case has been filed under the Arms Act.
