Dhaka: The President of Bangladesh is set to inaugurate a nine-day jute fair via an online platform at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises. This announcement was made by the State Minister for Textiles and Jute, Md Shariful Alam, during a briefing at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair is organized by the Department of Jute at the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) to celebrate National Jute Day. The event will run until March 1, aiming to promote jute and its diverse products. The State Minister extended an invitation to interested buyers, entrepreneurs, businessmen, and stakeholders to participate in the fair, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reviving the jute industry.
The State Minister highlighted that seven previously closed jute mills are being reopened, with plans to bring others back under private management. He reiterated the government’s ambition to transform Bangladesh into a modern, democratic, upper-middle-income country with a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
Addressing the government’s electoral promises, the State Minister stressed the importance of eliminating unemployment and creating jobs. He outlined coordinated initiatives to reopen jute mills that were previously closed due to mismanagement. Additionally, the long-term leasing of jute mills under the control of the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) continues, aiming to boost employment and invigorate the economy.
The State Minister noted that 7,200 individuals are currently employed across nine of the leased mills, contributing positively to production and employment in the country.
