Chattogram: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has vowed to bring to book all the top listed criminals and extortionists soon. “All the top listed criminals and extortions will be exposed to justice at the quickest possible time,” he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, he made the pledge while replying to a question about the arrest of the armed assailants who opened fire at the residence of Mostafizur Rahman, chairman of Smart Group, in the Chandanpura area of Chattogram early Saturday morning. The attack allegedly followed a failed extortion attempt of Tk 5 crore after a meeting with fire service officials at the Home Ministry.
Salahuddin stated that they have a specific plan for capturing the top listed criminals and extortionists without divulging any further details. He assured that the assailants have been identified, and law enforcement agencies are actively working to apprehend the criminals.
A charge sheet in the case will be submitted to the court as soon as the investigation is completed in a fair manner, he added. Salahuddin, who is also a Standing Committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), emphasized that every possible measure will be initiated to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent such incidents from recurring.
Responding to a question, he noted that the law and order situation has significantly improved since the BNP government assumed office. Referring to prompt arrests in connection with various criminal incidents, including the murder of an elderly woman and her minor granddaughter, he highlighted the successful and swift actions of law enforcers following these incidents.
