Kushtia: A dwelling house was gutted by fire after a drug-addicted son of the family who lived there allegedly set it on fire in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident occurred around 11:30 am at Moshaura village under Mathurapur Union. A team from Fire Service and Civil Defence in Bheramara quickly responded to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control.

Local people and police reported that Imran Hossain, 20, the son of RabiuI Islam of the village, demanded money from his family to purchase drugs. Upon facing refusal from his family members, he allegedly set the house on fire in anger. The blaze swiftly engulfed the dwelling, destroying household furniture along with it.

RabiuI Islam, the owner of the house, was not present when the incident took place. He was at the market and upon his return, found his house completely burned down. Bheramara Fire Service Station Officer Shafiqul Islam initially received information suggesting the fire started from a cooking stove, but later learned that a family member had intentionally set the house ablaze.

Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station Arifur Rahman stated that preliminary investigations indicate that the drug-addicted son was indeed responsible for the incident. “Legal action will be taken after further investigation,” he added.
