Dhaka: Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury announced that the Dhaka-Sylhet-Manchester flight route has been temporarily suspended to prioritize the transportation of Hajj pilgrims. Speaking at an iftar and reception event organized by the Sylhet District Bar Association, he clarified that the suspension is not permanent, and flights will resume once Hajj operations conclude.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister stated that the number of flights on other routes has also been reduced during this period. Ariful, who also serves as the Minister for Labour and Employment, emphasized the government's commitment to fulfilling the expectations of the people. He reassured the public that the government will work diligently over the next five years to meet these expectations.
The minister highlighted the government's determination to provide hassle-free services for expatriate passengers. He announced plans for a meeting with senior ministry officials next Sunday to address existing issues at the airport. Officials will conduct on-site inspections to identify problems and implement swift measures for resolution.
In his address, Ariful assured that maximum facilities for expatriate passengers will be gradually ensured not only in Sylhet but at all airports across the country. The event was chaired by the President of the Sylhet District Bar Association, Golam Yahya Chowdhury Suhel, and attended by Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, MP, the General Secretary of Sylhet District unit of BNP, as a special guest. Various government officials and leaders from the Bar Association were also present.
