Rangpur: Member of Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-3 constituency, Mahbubur Rahman Belal, has announced the elimination of the broker syndicate at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahbubur Rahman stated that a well-planned action plan will be developed and executed, involving the formation of a local committee with the joint efforts of the administration and law enforcement agencies. He made these remarks while engaging with journalists after a visit to the hospital in Dhap area.
Mahbubur Rahman noted that a syndicate is operational in every area of the hospital, exploiting the manpower shortage by entering under the guise of 'voluntary service' and extorting money from patients. He shared his firsthand observations of the situation.
Highlighting the influence of local syndicate members, he explained that they often threaten and exert pressure, leading to insecurity among nurses and doctors who are forced to accommodate them. To address this, a monitoring committee comprising local residents, administration, and dignitaries will be established.
The MP pointed out that despite the hospital having a capacity of 1,000 beds, it admits an average of 2,500 patients daily. However, the manpower is still managed according to an outdated structure designed for 600 beds, affecting the quality of service due to the prolonged lack of manpower increase.
Rahman emphasized the impossibility of ensuring complete service without increasing the number of beds and manpower. He expressed concern about the hospital's cleanliness, noting that garbage accumulation poses health risks to patients seeking treatment. He urged the hospital director to maintain basic cleanliness and order.
The MP also alleged that the hospital had previously been neglected and lacked necessary assistance. He called on the government to recognize RpMCH as a vital departmental institution and promptly increase its beds, manpower, and budget to provide adequate healthcare to the northern region's population.
Earlier, Mahbubur Rahman met with the hospital's director, Brigadier General Md Ashikur Rahman, to discuss the overall situation and visited various wards, including the CCU, offering necessary advice.
