Satkhira: The Para-military Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized two trucks and a passenger car containing 164 kg jelly-injected Bagda shrimp worth Taka 2.46 lakh from in front of the Sadar Upazila Parishad last night. Commander of Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion Lt. Col. Kazi Ashikur Rahman disclosed this information in a press release today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BGB operation was based on a secret tip-off. A team led by Assistant Director of 33 BGB, Brigadier Abdullah Al Masum, conducted the drive in front of the Sadar Upazila Parishad. The press release highlighted that a fish trader was fined Tk 43,000 for his involvement in marketing shrimp fish injected with harmful substances, posing a risk to human health.
The release further revealed that a significant quantity of adulterated Bagda shrimp was being transported to various districts, including the capital Dhaka, by unscrupulous traders in Satkhira. The BGB seized two trucks and an engine-driven Nasimon filled with the contaminated shrimp during the operation.
