Dhaka: Bangladesh's economy has grown by 3.49 percent in the fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this growth rate is a dip from the previous fiscal year 2023-24, where the economy expanded by 4.22 percent, as per the final estimate released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). In the fiscal year 2022-23, the GDP growth rate was higher, standing at 5.78 percent.
The BBS report highlighted that the per capita income of Bangladesh increased to US$2,769 in FY25. This figure marks an increase of 31 US dollars compared to the fiscal year 2023-24, when the per capita income was US$2,738. The national accounts for the fiscal year 2024-25 provided by BBS included these final figures for GDP and per capita income.
The highest recorded per capita income was US$2,793 during the 2021-22 fiscal year. However, the per capita income did not see a dollar increase subsequently due to fluctuations in the dollar's value. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the per capita income was US$2,749, which further declined to US$2,738 in 2023-24.
The variation in per capita income, as calculated by BBS, is primarily attributed to changes in the dollar exchange rate. For FY25, the average exchange rate used was Taka 120.82 per dollar, whereas, for FY24, it was Taka 111.06. Consequently, in Taka terms, the per capita income for FY25 was Taka 3,34,511, up from Taka 3,04,102 in FY24.
