Dhaka: A 14-year-old schoolgirl was tragically stabbed to death by an unidentified assailant in an alley near Hazaribagh Hotel under Hazaribagh Police Station on Wednesday night. The victim, Shahriar Sharmin Binti, was an eighth-grade student at Rayerbazar High School and the daughter of Billal Hossain, originally from Kachikata village in the Shariatpur district.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Binti had been residing with her family on the fifth floor of Babu Commissioner's house adjacent to Haider Ali Hotel in the Hazaribagh area. The incident unfolded around 9:30 pm, and despite being rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Binti was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30 pm.
Hafizur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, confirmed that police have visited the crime scene. Initial reports suggest that the motive behind the stabbing may be linked to a love-related issue. The investigation remains active, and authorities have stated that more information will be disclosed as the inquiry progresses.
