Dhaka: Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid emphasized that through proper planning, efficient management, and effective field-level initiatives, agro-products can become the country's main export commodity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Minister made these remarks at the closing ceremony of a five-day orientation course for newly appointed cadre officers of the 44th BCS (Livestock). The event took place at the Soil Resource Development Institute in the city. Rashid highlighted that if young officers adopt a field-oriented approach, the nation's agricultural potential can be harnessed into economic strength while ensuring food security and supporting socio-economic development.
The Minister pointed out that many countries, despite having snow-covered landscapes for a significant part of the year, have managed to make agriculture the backbone of their economies. In contrast, Bangladesh enjoys a favorable climate and fertile soil that allows for year-round crop production. However, Rashid stressed the need for more initiatives to reach desired economic outcomes in agriculture.
Addressing the young officers, Rashid emphasized their responsibility to serve the people. He expressed confidence that with proper management of the country's natural and agricultural resources, future generations could inherit a prosperous and sustainable Bangladesh. He urged the officers to work with honesty, responsibility, and efficiency to build a strong economic foundation in agriculture and food security.
The event also saw the presence of Abu Taher Muhammad Jabir, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, who attended as a special guest. Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, presided over the program, while Dr. Md. Boijar Rahman, Director of the department, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Begum Samia Sultana, Director General of the Soil Resource Development Institute, along with senior officials from the ministry and its departments, were in attendance. The Minister later distributed certificates to the meritorious young officers.
