Dhaka: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Wednesday announced that the recent change in the governorship of Bangladesh Bank is part of a larger administrative reshuffle initiated by the new government. This move aims to implement its priorities and policy agenda effectively. Minister Khosru addressed reporters at the Secretariat, emphasizing that such changes are not confined to the central bank alone but are occurring across various sectors.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Finance Minister Khosru explained that with the assumption of office, a new government naturally has its own set of priorities and programs, necessitating changes across different institutions. He reassured that this process is routine and part of aligning with the new administration’s objectives. The recent replacement of the central bank governor is not an isolated incident but a reflection of the government’s broader strategy to adjust to its policy thinking.

In response to queries about the rationale behind the removal of the governor, Minister Khosru reiterated that the decision was standard practice, driven by the new administration’s preferences. He highlighted that adjustments in various institutions are essential to synchronize with the government’s programs, and such changes are neither unusual nor unexpected.

Further emphasizing the government’s approach, Minister Khosru stated that administrative decisions are guided by the government’s program, preferences, and policy orientation. This reorganization includes the recent appointment of Md Mostakur Rahman as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank, succeeding Ahsan H Mansur. The government’s commitment to its economic agenda, in coordination with key financial institutions, remains steadfast as it seeks to ensure development benefits reach the populace effectively.
