Dhaka: The Election Commission of Bangladesh is set to observe the National Voter Day on March 2, 2026, under the theme ‘Empowered Voters, Liberated Democracy’. Celebrations will take place across the capital, divisional cities, district towns, and Upazila headquarters.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Election Commission has organized around 570 committees to mark the 8th National Voter Day. These include eight divisional, two regional (Faridpur and Cumilla), 64 district, and 495 upazila-level committees. The commission is preparing to celebrate the day with a series of events similar to previous years.
The EC Secretariat will host a discussion at its Agargaon auditorium in Dhaka. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin will be the chief guest at the event, which will also feature four election commissioners: Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmad, Anwarul Islam Sarker, and Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Sanaullah. The discussion will be presided over by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
National Voter Day was first introduced in 2019 following a Cabinet Division notification issued on April 8, 2018. The date was later changed to March 2 every year, as per a notification by the cabinet on January 15, 2020, replacing the previous observance date of March 1.
