Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will enforce strict security measures at this year’s Amar Ekushey Book Fair, ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for visitors, publishers, and authors. Speaking at a press briefing held at the fair premises in Suhrawardy Udyan, DMP Additional Commissioner Md. Sarwar announced that a comprehensive three-tier security system has been put in place for the month-long event.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Sarwar stated that there is no security threat centering the book fair, emphasizing that intelligence members will be deployed round the clock to monitor the situation. He mentioned that if any provocative book is found, necessary action will be taken in accordance with the law.

The fair will be held as usual at the premises of Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan, commemorating the immortal martyrs of the Language Movement. As part of the security measures, CCTV cameras have been installed across the venue, and archway gates will be set up at entry and exit points to screen visitors. Both uniformed and plainclothes police personnel will remain on duty inside and outside the fairgrounds.

To further bolster security, bomb disposal units and dog squads will be stationed at the venue. Adequate first-aid arrangements will also be in place to handle any emergencies. Sarwar also mentioned that law enforcement agencies will work to ensure smooth traffic management in and around the fair area, minimizing inconvenience for visitors.

He reiterated that authorities have not received any information regarding sabotage or attempts to create unrest at this year’s event, expressing confidence that the fair will be held in a festive and orderly atmosphere.
