Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmad (Bir Bikram) has asserted that the great Liberation War serves as the fundamental basis of Bangladesh's independence, distinguishing it from other movements and struggles. He emphasized this point during a view-exchange meeting with members of the National Freedom Fighters Council (JAMUKA) at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister expressed his concerns about what he perceives as the political misuse of the Liberation War's spirit. He lamented that the history and ideals associated with the war have been misappropriated over the years, leading to a loss of understanding among the younger generation about the true events and sacrifices involved in the fight for independence.
Minister Ahmad highlighted the lack of awareness among young people regarding the immense sacrifices and hardships endured by freedom fighters to achieve the nation's independence. He reiterated, "We must remember that the Liberation War is the main foundation of the birth of this state."
The meeting also resulted in several crucial decisions concerning the verification and selection of genuine freedom fighters, as well as the preservation of accurate historical records. The gathering was attended by Israt Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, members of JAMUKA, and other senior ministry officials.
