Dhaka: A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) sustained bullet injuries in Dhaka's Kalabagan area on Sunday night.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the injured, Shafiqur Rahman, 55, serves as the joint general secretary of Kalabagan Ward-16 BNP. He hails from Sidlai village under Burichang Police Station in Cumilla and currently resides in the Tongi Madhumoti Road area.
The shooting incident took place in front of the shoe market opposite Bashundhara Shopping Complex under Kalabagan Police Station at approximately 9:30 pm. Shahparan, a nearby shopkeeper, who assisted in taking Shafiqur to the hospital, mentioned that Shafiqur was supplying shoes to several local shops when a bullet unexpectedly struck his left hand. He was unable to identify the source of the gunfire.
Shafiqur was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:30 pm. Inspector Md Faruk, who is in charge of the police camp at the hospital, confirmed that a businessman with bullet injuries had been brought from Kalabagan and is receiving treatment in the emergency department. He added that Kalabagan Police Station has been informed about the incident.
