Dhaka: Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon emphasized that teachers would no longer need to protest to have their legitimate demands met, as the government is prioritizing the education sector and plans to implement justified claims from teachers and employees in phases.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Milon made these remarks during a views-exchange meeting with the Teachers-Employees Unity Council held at the Ministry of Education's conference room. Despite budgetary constraints, Milon assured that other demands of teachers would be presented to the Prime Minister for consideration. He acknowledged that not all issues could be included in the new budget but reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing these concerns.
Milon addressed allegations against ministry officials and employees, stating that complaints would be reviewed and resolved gradually. Discussions are ongoing concerning school managing committees and governing bodies, with attention to the issue of individuals holding responsibilities in multiple institutions.
Regarding the Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA), Milon mentioned that recent recruitment system changes would be evaluated, and necessary decisions would be made. The government is dedicated to ensuring transparency and accountability within the education sector, steering clear of corruption.
Plans are in place to hold meetings on financial matters, including retirement benefits and welfare trust issues. Milon highlighted that education is a top priority for the current government, receiving attention at the recent cabinet meeting.
State Minister for Education Bobby Hajjaj also spoke at the meeting, noting that the written demands submitted by teachers have been taken seriously. He emphasized the need for long-term solutions to prevent recurring agitation over unresolved demands.
Hajjaj underscored the importance of recognizing teachers' dignity and ensuring a proper evaluation of their classroom responsibilities. He assured that the government is cognizant of the expectations of the teaching community.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Teachers-Employees Unity Council and Cumilla-2 MP Selim Bhuiyan, along with other teacher leaders.
