Gazipur: The newly constructed highest flagpole in Bangladesh, named ‘Chiro Unnato Bijoy Nishan’, was unveiled at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy in Safipur. The Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar-VDP), Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, inaugurated the flagpole early this morning in commemoration of ‘International Mother Language Day’.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the inaugural ceremony, Major General Mahmud emphasized the sacrifice of Language Martyr Abdul Jabbar, a distinguished platoon commander of the force. He highlighted Jabbar’s dedication to preserving the dignity of the mother tongue as a significant inspiration for all members of the force. The DG described ‘Chiro Unnato Bijoy Nishan’ as a representation of Bangladesh’s proud history and the responsible future that awaits, inspiring members of the force to commit to defending the nation’s independence and sovereignty.

The Director General noted the language movement’s enduring lesson on the importance of striving to protect self-respect and rights. He encouraged Ansar-VDP members to perform their duties with professionalism, discipline, and honesty, guided by this spirit.

The flagpole, standing at 120 feet, is the tallest in the nation. It proudly displays a national flag that is 28 feet long and 16.8 feet wide. The ‘Chiro Unnato Bijoy Nishan’ serves as a perpetual emblem of Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, and the Liberation War.
