Over 2 Crore Metres of Illegal Nets Seized; 64 Arrested

Dhaka: Bangladesh River Police seized a huge quantity of illegal nets, fish, and jelly-injected shrimp during a five-day nationwide drive aimed at protecting the country’s fisheries resources and ensuring security on waterways.

According to United News of Bangladesh, a total of 21,334,330 metres of illegal nets, along with 2,409 kilograms of fish and 300 kilograms of jelly-injected shrimp, were seized during the drive, which continued until 8:00 am on Thursday. The operation also led to the filing of cases in the naval court against 23 bulkheads for lacking valid documents.

A total of 64 individuals were arrested over the course of the five-day operation. Besides these arrests, 26 cases were filed in connection with the seizures. Additionally, three dead bodies were recovered during the drive, adding a grim element to the operation.
