Dhaka: A Dhaka court today ordered the seizure of income tax records of Syed Samadul Haque, managing director (MD) of Bangla TV Limited. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC petition alleged that the accused acquired assets worth Taka 4.05 crore beyond his known sources of income. Additionally, he attempted to legalise Taka 3.53 crore through layering, by showing fictitious transformations of crime-derived money, prompting the anti-graft body to file a case.
The petition further stated that Samadul Haque has been an income tax payer since the 2005-06 fiscal year. For the sake of a proper investigation into assets inconsistent with his declared income, the ACC sought the seizure of his complete income tax records. These records, including permanent and miscellaneous files, are preserved at Circle-294 under Tax Zone-14 in Dhaka.
