Dinajpur: A festive mood has gripped the four upazilas of Dinajpur-6 constituency-Birampur, Nawabganj, Ghoraghat, and Hakimpur-after Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain was appointed as Minister of Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Ministries in the BNP-led government. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban, prompting celebrations across the constituency, regarded as one of the country’s largest parliamentary seats. Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with residents from various walks of life, expressed gratitude to party Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for entrusting Dr. Hossain with full ministerial responsibilities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, SM Shamim Hossain Chowdhury, president of Ghoraghat Upazila BNP, said the appointment marked a historic milestone for the constituency. “Half a century after independence, the people of this large constituency have finally received representation in the cabinet. The entire area is celebrating this long-awaited achievement,” he added. Dr. Hossain was elected in the parliamentary election from Dinajpur-6 with 203,887 votes.
Residents of Dinajpur-6 have expressed hopes for accelerated development in the region and extended wishes for the minister’s long life and good health as he assumes his new responsibilities.
