Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman announced his party’s readiness to support the government in various sectors if such assistance is requested, emphasizing the party’s commitment to the nation and its citizens. “If the ruling party wants, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will assist the government in all areas for the welfare of the nation and its citizens,” he stated to journalists following a meeting with the party’s newly elected Members of Parliament at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman highlighted past electoral challenges, noting that fair voting had not always been ensured in the country’s democratic journey, resulting in many citizens being deprived of their voting rights. He acknowledged that in the recent elections, citizens were able to exercise their voting rights and asserted the party’s commitment to fulfilling the electorate’s expectations.
The Jamaat chief called for citizen cooperation in upcoming days and assured, “We will not leave you. In happiness and hardship, we will remain by your side, Insha’Allah.” He expressed optimism that responsible actions by both government and opposition would help strengthen democracy, noting that the oath-taking ceremony of the Members of Parliament would mark a new chapter in the nation’s history.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also underscored the importance of the July mass uprising, emphasizing the need to uphold the spirit of “July” to prevent the recurrence of past struggles against fascism. He affirmed that the aspirations for which people sacrificed during that time would be represented in Parliament.
He further expressed hope that raising the people’s voices in Parliament would enhance the vibrancy of democracy. The meeting was attended by prominent party figures including Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam, Prof. Mujibur Rahman MP, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and other central leaders, alongside the party’s newly elected lawmakers.
