Kyiv: Ukraine’s NABU anti-corruption force has announced the arrest of the country’s former energy minister, German Galushchenko, as he attempted to leave Ukraine. The arrest occurred as Galushchenko was trying to cross the state border, following his resignation last year amid a significant corruption scandal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, NABU detectives detained Galushchenko as part of the ‘Midas’ case, a large-scale corruption investigation within Ukraine’s energy sector that emerged last year. Although the statement from NABU did not explicitly name Galushchenko, it is known that he served as the energy minister before stepping down in November. The scandal has been a pivotal issue in Ukraine, impacting various facets of the country’s governance and energy policies.
