Dhaka: A court here today set February 19 for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report on its further investigation into the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as the investigation agency failed to submit the report today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court had previously instructed the CID on January 15, 2026, to conduct a more thorough investigation after the complainant expressed dissatisfaction with the initial probe. The complainant filed a ‘naraji’ petition against the charge-sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police, requesting further investigation.

Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the DB had submitted the charge-sheet on January 6 against 17 accused individuals, including the alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. The case statement details that Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain opened fire on Hadi while he was in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on December 12, 2026, before fleeing the scene.

The case was filed by Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber with the Paltan Model Police Station on December 14. Following Hadi’s death on December 18, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad on December 20 ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case, which was initially filed as attempted murder.
