Thakurgaon: Preliminary results from the ongoing vote counting in Bangladesh show BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir leading in the Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar) constituency. He has so far secured 12,536 votes, surpassing his closest competitor, Jamaat’s candidate Delwar Hossain, who has garnered 9,359 votes. The counting process continues, and results from the remaining polling stations are eagerly awaited.
According to United News of Bangladesh, in the Thakurgaon-2 constituency, Dr. Abdus Salam of the BNP, represented by the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol, is leading with 21,636 votes. His nearest rival, Maulana Abdul Hakim of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has secured 18,944 votes in the early returns. Meanwhile, preliminary results from Gazipur-3 and Manikganj-3 constituencies also indicate early leads for the BNP’s ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ candidates as counting progresses.
In Gazipur-3, results from 10 out of 180 polling centres reveal the BNP candidate leading with 8,462 votes, while the ‘Rickshaw’ symbol candidate has received 6,110 votes so far. Election officials have stated that counting in the remaining 170 centres is still underway.
In Manikganj-3 (Constituency No. 170), results from 38 out of 151 centres show BNP candidate Afroza Khanam Rita, symbolized by ‘Sheaf of Paddy,’ with a significant lead, having secured 41,149 votes. Her competitor Sayed Noor of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, represented by the ‘Rickshaw’ symbol, has obtained 16,799 votes, while independent candidate Ataur Rahman Ata, with the ‘Football’ symbol, has 3,853 votes.
Returning officers have clarified that these figures are unofficial and partial, with the final results to be announced after the completion of vote counting in all centres.
