Dhaka: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday stated that his party intends to govern the nation alongside all the parties that were part of their movement. He expressed this intention while speaking to reporters outside BNP’s Gulshan office following a visit to several polling centers in the capital.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tarique conveyed his confidence in his party’s ability to secure a historic election victory. He expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout and voiced optimism about the BNP’s prospects of winning. Tarique had earlier toured polling centers at several locations, including Dhaka Cantonment’s Adamjee Cantonment Public School and College, Mohakhali, Panthapath, Bhashantek, Manik Mia Avenue, Road 27 in Dhanmondi, Sohanbagh, and Banani’s Bidya Niketan area.
During his visit, Tarique observed that people in Dhaka city were casting their votes with notable enthusiasm. He mentioned seeing people traveling by various means, such as launch, steamer, train, and bus, returning to their hometowns to participate in the voting process. He hoped for this enthusiasm to persist throughout the day.
When questioned about the number of seats the BNP expects to win, Tarique expressed optimism that they would secure enough constituencies to govern effectively. He emphasized that the party would accept the election results if the election was conducted fairly and without disputes, stating the necessity for the election to be impartial and peaceful.
Tarique also addressed concerns about media reports of unwanted incidents and misinformation affecting voters. He noted that these issues were unacceptable. Furthermore, when asked about a potential delay in the announcement of election results, the BNP chairman remarked that results in previous elections were declared within a specific timeframe and anticipated that the Election Commission would adhere to the same standard this time.
