Dhaka: Voting was progressing in a free, peaceful, and festive atmosphere, with only a few stray incidents reported, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after casting his vote at the Baridhara Scholars International School and College polling centre in the capital’s Baridhara area around 10:00am.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Home Adviser reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the election is held in a free, fair, peaceful, acceptable, and festive environment. He emphasized the vital role of journalists in ensuring free, fair, and credible national elections. Chowdhury noted that accurate reporting by the media had played a significant role in countering propaganda and misinformation spread by certain Indian outlets.
He further expressed his belief that if the media presents factual news during the national election, it will help prevent rumours and disinformation. Chowdhury expressed confidence in the media’s ability to provide accurate and objective coverage throughout the election process.
Later in the day, the adviser visited the Central Coordination Cell for law and order at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Operations Control Room at Police Headquarters, demonstrating his active involvement in overseeing the election’s security and integrity.
