Dhaka: Members of the Bangladesh Army detained 13 BNP activists on suspicion of attempting to seize two polling stations in Dhaka’s Ashulia early Thursday. The detainees were later handed over to Ashulia police station.
According to United News of Bangladesh, SI Saymon Sheikh, duty officer of Ashulia Police Station, confirmed that the individuals are currently in police custody. Around 12:30 am, an army patrol team conducted an operation at the Notun Nagar New Model School and College polling station in Ward No. 5 of Dhamsona Union, detaining nine BNP activists. The individuals include Abdur Rahman, Bashir Uddin Bepari, Mohammad Sarwar, Md Julhas Uddin, Md Sumon, Md Sujan, Md Shahinur Islam, Akhtar Hossain’s son Md Sumon, and Danez Ali Sheikh’s son Md Nurul Islam. They are reportedly supporters of BNP-nominated candidate Dr Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu.
In a separate operation at the same time, four more people were detained at the Nalam polling station in Ward No. 9 of Dhamsona Union. The detainees are identified as Md Montu Mia, Md Jewel Mia, Kabir Hossain, and Rakib Hossain. Law enforcement agencies stated that they are also supporters of the same candidate.
SI Saymon Sheikh mentioned that after verification, necessary legal action will be taken as decided by higher authorities.
