Khulna: Polling of the 13th parliamentary election ended at 4:30 pm peacefully amid a festive mood in here. Men and women voters cast their ballots today after the voting began at 7:30 am in polling centers in all six constituencies in Khulna city and district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this year, the voter turnout was around 65 percent in all six Khulna constituencies, with the number rising sharply from the morning as the day progressed. A total of 38 candidates from different political parties, including the BNP, contested for six parliamentary seats in the Khulna Division.
A substantial deployment of 18,624 law enforcement personnel, including army and navy, ensured security across all constituencies. The voter base consisted of 20,78,253 individuals, with 10,33,851 men and 10,44,375 women casting their votes. To maintain order during the election, 54 magistrates, including 40 executive magistrates and 14 judicial magistrates, were present, as noted by the Election Commissioner (EC).
Khulna Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner A S M Jamshed Khondokar informed BSS that the voting concluded peacefully without any incidents. He added that between 62% to 65% of voters participated in the election across all constituencies, and vote counting is currently underway.
