Rangpur: In order to organize the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election and Referendum in a fair, free, peaceful, and impartial manner, the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) has issued a public notice imposing restrictions on the movement of certain vehicles.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the public notice was signed by RpMP Commissioner Md Majid Ali and has been issued as per the instructions of the Election Commission and the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. The notice, released by the Rangpur Regional PID Office, outlines the restrictions which will be in effect starting from midnight on Wednesday, February 11, until midnight on Thursday, February 12, for taxi cabs, pickups, microbuses, and trucks.

Furthermore, the movement of motorcycles will face restrictions from midnight on Tuesday, February 10, until midnight on Friday, February 13. The notice emphasizes that legal action will be taken against anyone violating this ban.

Exemptions to the ban include vehicles used by law enforcement agencies, armed forces, administration, journalists, and permitted observers. Additionally, vehicles supporting disabled voters, emergency services such as ambulances, fire services, and vehicles carrying newspapers are not subject to these restrictions. The exemptions extend to vehicles used for urgent needs, including the supply of emergency goods, medicines, food items, and vehicles of passengers or relatives traveling to the airport, provided they show a ticket or similar proof.

The notification further clarifies that the ban will be relaxed for one vehicle per rival candidate, one vehicle for the election agent of the rival candidate (subject to approval by the Returning Officer and display of the sticker), and vehicles or motorcycles used by journalists, observers, or emergency workers approved by the Election Commission.

Lastly, the ban will be relaxed on important roads, highways, and main roads connecting to national highways, inter-district, or major roads for entering or exiting the metropolis.
