Dhaka: Secretary General of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Quader Gani Chowdhury, emphasized the significant role sports play in developing physical and mental strength, as well as instilling discipline, loyalty, and patriotism. He made these remarks during an award distribution ceremony for the annual sports competition organized by the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association at the Hotel Imperial auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Quader Gani highlighted that sports contribute to maintaining a healthy body and mind, which in turn enhances interest in work and increases productivity. He remarked that sports are essential for stimulating both physical and mental health and also foster compassion and leadership qualities.
The event was presided over by Bangladesh Photojournalist Association President AKM Mohsin, who added that sports aid in developing children’s creativity and imagination. He expressed concern that children are seldom seen on playgrounds nowadays, as they are often overwhelmed by academic pressures, leaving them with little opportunity to engage in outdoor activities.
Quader Gani further criticized the growing trend of neglecting sports, pointing out that many believe playing games on mobile devices or watching television is sufficient. He warned that this reliance on smartphones could jeopardize the future generation. He stressed the importance of incorporating sports and annual sports competitions in all schools and colleges to counteract this trend.
