Thakurgaon: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Thakurgaon-3 constituency Md Zahidur Rahman has pledged to improve education and agriculture, and generate employment in his constituency if he gets people's mandate in the 13th national election. He shared his pledges and expectations in an interview with BSS Thakurgaon district correspondent Zakir Mostafiz Milu.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zahidur Rahman emphasized that the main goals are to enhance education, agriculture, and employment. He noted that his constituency heavily relies on agriculture, and thus, ensuring fair prices for farmers' products is a priority. He also highlighted the importance of establishing agriculture-based industries to boost employment for educated youths and transform the economy into an export-based one. Additionally, he underscored the necessity of women's full participation in development efforts, promoting women's empowerment, and ensuring equal rights.
Zahidur Rahman acknowledged the weak health and medical systems in his area, promising efforts to improve the quality of services at upazila and union health centers, as well as increasing hospital capacities. He mentioned plans to deliver government medical services to patients' homes. Following BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's promise, the improvement of life quality and prosperity in Thakurgaon-3 will be pursued through family cards and agricultural cards.
He instructed party leaders and workers to strictly adhere to the electoral code of conduct, emphasizing the importance of following rules and avoiding any violations. On the referendum regarding the July Charter, Rahman stated that BNP stands in favor of a 'Yes' vote and supports voters' freedom to decide through the referendum.
Expressing his expectations for the national elections, Zahidur Rahman highlighted the significance of achieving fair and impartial elections after 17 years, viewing it as a step towards democracy and freedom from tyranny. He called for support for BNP's 'sheaf of paddy' symbol to realize dreams of prosperity, equality, and non-communalism under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The Thakurgaon-3 constituency, comprising Pirganj and Ranishankail upazilas with 16 unions and two municipalities, has a total of 3,61,044 voters. The election race in Thakurgaon-3 includes 10 candidates, with Md Zahidur Rahman of BNP, Md Mizanur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed of Jatiya Party being the main contenders.
