Dhaka-14 Jamaat Candidate Pledges to Ensure Accountability of Public Representatives

Dhaka: Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in Dhaka-14 constituency, has pledged to ensure the accountability of public representatives if elected in the upcoming election. In an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Arman emphasized that the election will be pivotal for determining the future course of Bangladesh and fulfilling the aspirations of the July student-people’s uprising.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Arman stated his key commitment to the people is to remain accountable to his voters. He plans to present himself every three or six months before the public, providing accounts of allocations and answering questions in an open program titled ‘Jonotar Mukhomukhi’. Arman also outlined immediate actions, such as constructing a bridge in Kaundia and Bongaon, and establishing a government hospital in Kaundia.



Arman has also pledged to elevate Bangla College to a separate university status, enhance facilities at Shah Ali Mazar, and upgrade the nearby hospital into a medical college. His promises extend to providing technical training for youth, supporting freelancers, and eliminating extortion and drug trade from his constituency.



On election code compliance, Arman mentioned that his team has simplified the 40-page election code of conduct into bullet points for better dissemination among his supporters to ensure adherence. Regarding the July Charter referendum, he expressed his support for its implementation and campaigned for a ‘Yes’ vote, citing his own experience as a victim of enforced disappearance.



As for his expectations from the February 12 election, Arman expressed hope for a free and fair process where voters can cast their ballots safely. He urged the Election Commission to reassure citizens and emphasized the high enthusiasm among the people, urging them to resist any attempts to occupy polling centers.



Dhaka-14 constituency comprises 456,044 voters, including 232,066 men, 223,974 women, and four hijra voters. Other candidates contesting the Dhaka-14 election include BNP’s Sanjida Islam Tuli, Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Md Abu Yusuf, Communist Party’s Riaz Uddin, Gonoforum’s Md Jasim Uddin, Liberal Democratic Party’s Md Sohel Rana, AB Party’s Mohammad Moniruzzaman, JSD’s Nurul Amin, Jatiya Party’s Md Helal Uddin, Bangladesh Republican Party’s Md Liton, and Bangladesh Supreme Party’s Md Osman Ali.
