Dinajpur: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today sought votes for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' (Dhaner Shish) from the voters of the district as a grandson of the area. He expressed his connection to Dinajpur, stating, "I am a grandson of Dinajpur, I'm coming to my maternal home after many years but you didn't even feed me anything. So you must give me one thing. You must vote for the Sheaf of Paddy for me."
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made the request at a public rally held at the Birampur Government College ground in Dinajpur. He outlined various plans for the area, emphasizing on building agriculture-related industries. He remarked on the potential for exporting Dinajpur's famous lychees and 'Kataribhog' rice globally, highlighting the need for proper processing and storage facilities.
Tarique Rahman also focused on enhancing the skills of the local youth, proposing the establishment of vocational and training institutes to address unemployment. He mentioned plans to alleviate the burden of micro-loans on residents by repaying these from government funds.
The BNP Chairman called for a country built on the sacrifices of 1971's freedom fighters, asserting that reclaiming and establishing democracy is a priority. He introduced BNP-nominated candidates for Dinajpur's constituencies and sought support for them and other 'Sheaf of Paddy' candidates.
The event was presided over by District BNP President Mofazzal Hossain Dulal and moderated by its General Secretary Bakhtiar Ahmed Kochi. BNP leaders, including Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain and other parliamentary candidates, participated in the rally.
