Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today addressed an election rally at Habiganj's new field grounds, emphasizing that the nation's abundant resources have not translated into prosperity for its people, primarily due to corrupt leadership. He asserted that despite Bangladesh's fertile lands and rich resources, the citizens continue to face poverty and inequality.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Rahman lamented that the potential of the nation remains largely untapped, with the dreams of the country's freedom fighters yet to be realized. He criticized the lack of economic freedom, quality education, healthcare, and security that were envisioned during the independence struggle, attributing the failure to those in power.
Dr. Rahman further addressed the growing divisions within the nation and stressed the importance of religious harmony. He highlighted Bangladesh's history of coexistence among Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, urging unity against division. He pledged that under Jamaat-e-Islami's leadership, the country would strive to preserve and enhance religious unity.
Expressing concern over the security situation, Dr. Rahman remarked on the prevalence of extortionists and corrupt officials, which has left many citizens feeling unsafe. He stated that this is not the vision that freedom fighters had for Bangladesh. He also pointed out the issue of corruption, citing the illegal transfer of nearly 28 trillion taka abroad over the past 15 years, and vowed to combat corruption if his party comes to power.
Dr. Rahman emphasized his party's commitment to empowering the youth and creating opportunities for them, particularly in rural areas. He outlined plans to develop agricultural industries and modernize tea gardens, aiming to improve education and healthcare for workers.
He also stressed the importance of establishing a just and transparent system of governance, ensuring accountability for elected officials. Dr. Rahman highlighted the need for a fair judicial system, advocating for justice that applies to all citizens without exception.
Concluding his speech, Dr. Rahman called for support in the upcoming elections, urging the people of Bangladesh to vote for Jamaat-e-Islami and the 11-party alliance to ensure a better future for all 18 crore Bangladeshis.
