Patuakhali: Hasan Mamun, an independent candidate for the Patuakhali-3 constituency, has committed to prioritizing the resolution of land and boundary disputes and enhancing the living standards in the char areas if elected in the upcoming 13th national polls. He aims to utilize his experience and dedication to accelerate development in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mamun, who previously served as the president of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal and was a member of the BNP central executive committee, is contesting the election with the 'horse' symbol. Political analysts recognize his strong organizational presence in Galachipa and Dashmina upazilas, attributed to his 34 years of political involvement, which has heightened the electoral competition.
In an interview with BSS Patuakhali district correspondent Enamul Haque Ena, Mamun elaborated on his plans and the aspirations of the local community. He emphasized creating a comprehensive election manifesto informed by the input of professionals, public representatives, and residents. Key initiatives include boosting agricultural production, addressing land disputes, and improving healthcare infrastructure, such as establishing modern hospitals in the char areas. Infrastructure projects like the construction of Haridevpur Bridge and upgrading roads, schools, and colleges are also prioritized.
Mamun has instructed his supporters to adhere to the electoral code of conduct and called for stricter enforcement by the Election Commission and local authorities. He expects a free and fair election, warning that failure to achieve this could lead to national instability.
Patuakhali-3, comprising Galachipa and Dashmina upazilas, is a politically significant constituency due to its strategic coastal location. The area has long awaited sustainable development in education, healthcare, communication, and employment.
The Election Commission notes that Patuakhali-3 includes one municipality and 19 unions, with a total voter count of 375,871, of which 189,020 are male, 186,848 are female, and three are third gender voters across 124 polling centers.
Other candidates in the race for this seat include Jamaat's Prof Muhammad Shah Alam, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abu Bakar Siddique, and Gano Odhikar Parishad's Nurul Haque Nur, among others.
