Rajshahi: Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday said there is no fear of any kind of violence surrounding the upcoming national election, as law enforcement agencies remain fully prepared to ensure a peaceful poll.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Home Affairs Adviser emphasized that law enforcement agencies are well-prepared for the election during a press briefing held after a law and order coordination meeting at the Rajshahi Prison Training Academy auditorium. The meeting aimed to facilitate the smooth running of the national elections and referendum.
Chowdhury highlighted ongoing operations across the country to guarantee free, fair, and peaceful elections, noting that illegal weapons are being seized through these efforts. He detailed the deployment of security forces, including approximately one lakh Army personnel, 5,000 Navy members, 37,000 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, 4,000 Coast Guard personnel, 1.5 lakh police officers, 9,000 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members, and over 5 lakh Ansar members.
Addressing concerns about potential violence, Chowdhury stated there is no issue of 'mob violence' in the country, assuring that law enforcement agencies have no reason to be apprehensive.
In response to a question about candidates violating election codes of conduct, he asserted that any indecent behavior will be exposed, leading to a loss of public support for the candidates involved. Legal action will be pursued against those who cross the line.
The meeting was attended by key figures such as BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, Additional Inspector General of Police Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani, along with senior officials and representatives from election-related departments and law enforcement agencies in Rajshahi Division.
