Dhaka: A court here today set February 9 for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report on its further investigation into the sensational murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order as the investigation agency failed to submit the report today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court’s decision for further investigation came after the complainant expressed dissatisfaction with the initial probe. On January 15, 2026, the court instructed the CID to conduct further investigation following a naraji petition filed by the complainant against the charge-sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. The complainant sought additional inquiry, questioning the findings of the initial investigation.
Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the DB had submitted the charge-sheet on January 6 against 17 accused, including the alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. The case statement indicated that Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain opened fire on Hadi while he was traveling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on December 12, 2026, before fleeing the scene.
The murder case was filed by Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber with Paltan Model Police Station on December 14. Subsequently, on December 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case. This decision followed Hadi’s death on December 18, escalating the charges from attempted murder to murder.
