Dhaka: A court here today convicted ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, sentencing her to 10 years' imprisonment, while her niece Tulip Siddiq received a four-year jail term in two separate cases concerning the RAJUK New Town Project plot allocations. Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 announced the verdict at around 12:30 pm after beginning proceedings at 12:05 pm and reading the judgment from 12:09 pm.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in one of the cases, Tulip's sister Azmina Siddiq and brother Radwan Mujib Siddiq were each sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. The court imposed a fine of Taka one lakh on the five convicts in each case, with an additional six months of imprisonment for non-payment. The court also annulled the allotment of the two 10-katha plots given to Azmina and Radwan.
Earlier, the court had set February 2 for delivering a judgment on a case involving 18 individuals, including Hasina and Tulip, after concluding arguments on January 13, 2026. In this case, Hasina received a five-year sentence, Tulip two years, and Azmina seven years.
The court also sentenced former RAJUK officials, including administrative officer Md Saiful Islam Sarkar, senior assistant secretary Purabi Goldar, additional secretaries Wali Ullah and Kazi Wasi Uddin, and former RAJUK chairman Md Anisur Rahman Miah, among others, to five years' imprisonment and a fine of Taka one lakh each. Former RAJUK member Mohammad Khurshid Alam received a one-year sentence and a fine of Taka one lakh.
The testimonies in the case were concluded on January 5, with ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya as the last prosecution witness. A total of 31 witnesses testified. The ACC filed the case on January 13, 2025, and submitted the charge sheet on March 10, 2025.
In another related case, the same court sentenced Hasina to five years, Radwan to seven years, and Tulip to two years. Former RAJUK officials and the former state minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed were also sentenced to five years' imprisonment and fined Taka one lakh. Khurshid Alam received a one-year sentence and a fine in this case as well. The trial commenced on July 31, 2025, with charges framed against the accused. A total of 28 witnesses testified in this case.
