Rajshahi: As the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election approaches, the election field has become highly charged due to intense campaigning by candidates in Rajshahi's six constituencies as well as neighbouring seats. Determined to secure victory, candidates have fully geared up and plunged into the electoral race.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in Rajshahi-1, BNP candidate Major General (Retd.) Sharif Uddin carried out extensive door-to-door campaigning on Saturday in different areas of the Gogram Union of Godagari Upazila. During the campaign, he called on everyone to work unitedly to ensure the victory of the Sheaf of Paddy symbol in the upcoming election. On the other hand, AB Party candidate Dr. Muhammad Abdur Rahman Mohseni also conducted widespread public outreach and leaflet distribution, engaging with local residents in various neighbourhoods, markets, and shops in the rural areas of Kamalapur in Gogran Union. His campaign saw spontaneous participation from local people.
Dr. Mohseni also attended a day-night cricket tournament held at Kamalapur Government Primary School field as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the tournament. Meanwhile, calling for the restoration of democracy and the establishment of people's fundamental and voting rights, Professor Abul Kalam Azad, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate of the Scale symbol, campaigned in different areas of Parila Union under Rajshahi-3 constituency. He emphasized the importance of voting for the Scales to regain democratic rights, which he claimed were deprived under the previous authoritarian regime.
In Kesharhat municipality, BNP-nominated Sheaf of Paddy candidate Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon addressed environmental issues, highlighting that polluted wastewater from Rajshahi City Corporation is being discharged into the Barnoi River. He promised that treating this wastewater and restoring the Barnoi River would be his top priorities. He also pledged to recover and excavate illegally occupied canals to secure water supply for agricultural purposes.
In the Rajshahi-5 (Durgapur-Puthia) constituency, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Manzur Rahman witnessed an enthusiastic response from voters during his campaign in Shalgharia village. Similarly, in Rajshahi-6 (Charghat-Bagha) constituency, BNP-nominated candidate Abu Sayeed Chand assured voters of maximum security and infrastructure improvements, including repairing temples and roads. He proposed issuing family cards to every household and providing salaries to religious leaders if BNP comes to power.
In Chapainawabganj-2 constituency, Sheaf of Paddy candidate Alhaj Aminul Islam conducted day-long campaigning in Rahanpur Municipality, distributing leaflets and seeking votes in various areas. He later held a roadside meeting at Sobhan Nagar Colony Hafezia Madrasa.
The election race in Naogaon-1 constituency has also become highly competitive with five candidates, including four party-nominated and one independent contestant. Supporters have already entered the electoral battlefield, displaying banners and festoons, distributing leaflets, and continuing microphone-based campaigning, reflecting the enthusiasm among general voters.
