Dhaka: Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Chhatra Union, Chhatra Front, and Chhatra Shakti on Sunday organized a broom procession on the premises of Jahangirnagar University. The protest was in response to derogatory remarks about women allegedly posted from the X (formerly Twitter) account of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has claimed that Ameer Shafiqur Rahman's X account was compromised by conspirators. The procession began from the university's central Shahid Minar around 7:00 pm, with participants expressing their disapproval against the remarks.
One protester emphasized the collective disapproval, stating, 'We, including women from different professions such as garment workers, cannot accept this kind of insult.' Another protester highlighted the historical contributions of women, saying, 'Our mothers and sisters have sacrificed their lives for this country. Please do not let such sacrifices go in vain.'
Earlier in the day, a group of female students from Dhaka University also staged a broom procession on their campus, condemning the same remarks. This event took place in the afternoon in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the university grounds.
In response to the accusations, Jamaat Ameer stated in a Facebook post that false and misleading content is being circulated on social media with the intent to misrepresent their position.
