Bagerhat: BNP-nominated candidate for Bagerhat-2 (Bagerhat-Kachua) constituency, Barrister Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain, today issued a stern warning against any involvement in extortion, terrorism, or disorderly activities conducted under the guise of BNP affiliation, stating that such elements have no place in the party. He made these remarks during an election rally organized by Dema Union BNP in Bagerhat Sadar upazila this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Barrister Zakir, while addressing the rally as the chief guest, emphasized that the BNP stands for disciplined and democratic politics and will not tolerate any criminal activities under its banner. He clearly stated, “Extortionists and terrorists have no place in this party.”
During the rally, Barrister Zakir outlined his election pledges, promising to re-excavate government canals to alleviate waterlogging and boost agricultural production if elected. He also committed to installing water reservoirs to address the region’s drinking water crisis and implementing measures to prevent saline water intrusion into croplands, aiming to help farmers become self-reliant through rice and vegetable cultivation.
Urging voters to exercise caution, he warned, “One wrong decision can push the country towards militancy. There is no room for mistakes.” He appealed to the people to vote for the sheaf of paddy in the February 12 parliamentary elections to bring BNP back to power.
Barrister Zakir further pledged to prioritize the trial of the murder of late Sajeeb, a popular leader of Dema Union BNP, if elected. He also promised to combat drug issues, build playgrounds for the youth, and ensure the safety of minority Hindu community members.
Expressing his deep connection to the constituency, Barrister Zakir said, “This country and this soil are my roots. I was born here and want to dedicate my life to serving the people of this area.” Local leaders of BNP and its associate bodies also participated in the program.
Earlier in the day, Barrister Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain engaged in door-to-door campaigning and public interactions in Bishnupur Union of Bagerhat Sadar from morning to noon and continued his outreach in Harikhali, Muniganj, and Harinkhana areas of Bagerhat municipality in the evening.
