Rangpur: A two-day Winter Festival-1432, organized by the students of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), commenced this afternoon at the university’s Independence Memorial Square. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali officially inaugurated the festival by cutting a ribbon during a vibrant ceremony on the campus, with his wife Mahmuda Akhter attending as a guest of honor.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-Chancellor, in his inaugural speech, emphasized the significance of such initiatives in introducing traditional Bengali folk culture to the younger generation. He highlighted that the winter festival serves as a bridge connecting students with their culture and heritage, fostering camaraderie and promoting cultural integration within the campus.
After the inauguration, Professor Dr. Showkat Ali, accompanied by his spouse and invited guests, toured the various stalls displaying traditional pitha-puli from different regions of the country. The festival also includes cultural programs featuring folk songs, dances, poetry recitations, and musical performances, scheduled for the evenings of January 29 and 30.
Members of the organizing committee and other concerned officials were present at the inaugural ceremony, marking the beginning of an event that celebrates cultural richness and community spirit.
