Mal©: Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has urged the Maldives authorities to increase the recruitment of qualified professionals, including doctors, engineers, nurses, and teachers, from Bangladesh. He made this call during a meeting with Maldives Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development Dr Ali Haider Ahmed on the sidelines of the Global Labour Market Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the focus of the meeting was on enhancing the recruitment of professional workers in the Maldives' labor market. Dr Asif Nazrul also emphasized the need to regularize all irregular and undocumented Bangladeshi workers currently residing in the Maldives.
Dr Asif Nazrul expressed appreciation for the educational loan facilities provided to Maldivian students for studying abroad and extended an invitation to more Maldivian students to pursue higher education in Bangladesh, particularly in fields like medicine, engineering, agriculture, and other specialized subjects. Furthermore, he encouraged initiatives to attract Bangladeshi tourists to visit the Maldives.
In response, Dr Ali Haider showed interest in recruiting more skilled workers and professionals from Bangladesh. He also proposed that renowned universities from Bangladesh could organize an education fair in the Maldives to foster educational ties between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by Dr Abdullah Nazir, State Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development of Maldives, and Md Saiful Haque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, among others.
