Dhaka: President and Executive Chair of the Marana Foundation Nahar Khan on Sunday highlighted the evolving nature of Bangladesh-France relations, emphasizing their shift beyond traditional development cooperation towards economic complementarities, shared innovation agendas, and strategic alignment. These remarks were made during the conclusion of a lecture series titled ‘France and the World: Bangladesh in it,’ organized by the Center for the Bay of Bengal Studies and Marana Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Global Studies and Governance of Independent University, Bangladesh.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the day-long event explored bilateral ties from various perspectives, including diplomatic, strategic, environmental, economic, and regional dimensions, demonstrating the deepening and maturing partnership between the two nations. Nahar Khan noted that the relationship is increasingly driven by mutual economic interests and innovation, rather than solely traditional development cooperation.
The seminar featured the French Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jean-Marc S©r©-Charlet, as the chief guest, with Masud Khan, Chairman of the Marana Foundation, delivering the opening speech. Nahar Khan highlighted the unique contributions both countries make towards global goals, mentioning France’s strengths in technology and sustainable development, and Bangladesh’s economic growth, creative industries, and dynamic demographics.
Khan emphasized the potential for both nations to learn from each other, advocating for sustainable partnerships through universities, research centers, and dialogue platforms. She expressed optimism for expanded cooperation in cultural diplomacy, climate action, digital innovation, security cooperation, and ethical frameworks for emerging technologies.
At the Marana Foundation, Khan stressed the importance of moving beyond mere statements and symbolism to facilitate honest discussions, mutual learning, and long-term collaboration. She thanked French Ambassador Jean-Marc S©r©-Charlet for his engagement, reflecting the depth and potential of Bangladesh-France relations.
Acknowledging the contributions of co-organizers, Khan expressed gratitude to the Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies and the Department of Global Studies and Governance at the International University of Bangladesh (IUB). She also recognized the leadership of IUB Vice-Chancellor Professor M Tamim, Board of Trustees Chairman Didar A. Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Daniel W. Lund, Rear Admiral Khurshid Ullam, and Ambassador Tariq Kareem for their roles in promoting dialogue and research on regional, maritime, and governance issues.
Khan concluded by thanking all participants for enriching the discussion, reinforcing the importance of sustained engagement between Bangladesh and France.
