Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has pledged ‘zero’ tolerance against corruption, emphasizing the party’s commitment to clean governance based on its historical performance in state administration.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks during his inaugural address at the ‘Policy Summit 2026’ held at the Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka.

Dr Shafiqur highlighted the integrity and effectiveness demonstrated by former Jamaat leaders who once led key ministries, ensuring zero corruption during their tenure. He addressed the economic challenges Bangladesh faces, noting that while the economy has grown, issues such as unemployment and inflation persist, negatively impacting livelihoods. He underscored the importance of transforming educational achievements into tangible opportunities, particularly for young graduates and women.

He stressed that Bangladesh’s economic success should be gauged by its citizens’ ability to plan their lives confidently and with dignity. Dr Shafiqur praised the country’s young and industrious workforce and acknowledged the vital role of migrant workers, whose remittances support families and stabilize the economy. He also recognized the contributions of the global Bangladeshi professional community willing to mentor and support reform efforts.

Dr Shafiqur advocated for expanding women’s participation in the economy, stating it is both a matter of justice and economic necessity. He highlighted Bangladesh’s natural resources and strategic geographic position as opportunities for sustainable growth and regional connectivity. He emphasized the need to translate the country’s potential into prosperity through effective institutions and responsible political choices.

He pointed out the erosion of democratic institutions and accountability in Bangladesh, referring to the mass uprising led by youth in July 2024. He called for rebuilding the country during this democratic transition and paid tribute to the martyrs of the July movement. With the national election approaching on February 12, the summit aimed to outline Jamaat-e-Islami’s vision for a just and prosperous Bangladesh.

The summit was attended by diplomats from various countries, representatives from international organizations, and distinguished guests, including prominent editors, journalists, and intellectuals. Key figures from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leadership were also present, showcasing the party’s intention to engage with both national and international stakeholders.
