CUCSU Launches Free Legal Aid Cell to Support Students

Chittagong: Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) has launched the ‘CUCSU Free Legal Aid Cell’ to provide free legal services and consultations to students of Chittagong University (CU).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the legal aid cell was formally inaugurated this evening at the CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) office. The initiative aims to enhance legal awareness among students, protect their rights, and ensure easy access to justice.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest, while Acting Registrar Prof. Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam was present as a special guest and speaker. CUCSU Vice President (VP) Ibrahim Hossain Rony, General Secretary (GS) Saeed Bin Habib, Law and Human Rights Secretary Fazle Rabbi Touhid, other CUCSU representatives, and the lawyers associated with the Free Legal Aid Cell were also present on the occasion.

Senior Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Barrister Belayet Hossain, Deputy Attorney General Barrister Osman Chowdhury, and Assistant Attorney General Advocate Tarikul Islam joined the initiative. Additionally, a total of 20 renowned lawyers from the Bangladesh Supreme Court and Chattogram Judge Court are associated with the legal aid cell.

Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin stated that the initiative taken by CUCSU to ensure free legal services for students would set an exemplary model across the country. He emphasized that many students face legal challenges but often fail to seek proper assistance, and this initiative will enable students to receive legal support easily and help them raise a strong voice against injustice and discrimination.

CUCSU GS Saeed Bin Habib remarked, ‘Today, a commitment has been fulfilled. We are working relentlessly to implement our manifesto, and CUCSU will always stand beside students to ensure effective and sustainable solutions to their problems, Insha’Allah.’

Organisers expressed hope that the ‘CUCSU Free Legal Aid Cell’ would emerge as a landmark initiative in ensuring legal protection, safeguarding rights, and promoting access to justice for Chittagong University students.
